Ugly as Mud Piggy Bank

This is a smaller piggy bank I made when I had some left-over clay from a 25-pound bag.

Look at them lips!

This Ugly as Mud Piggy Bank is made from high-fire clay, and painted with quite a few layers of acrylic paint.

You can see the traditional "piggy bank" shape of the body that I use for all my piggy banks, made from two pinch-pots joined together. The air trapped inside acts almost like a balloon, giving the clay structure while I add feet, eyes, ears, etc. At the very end I cut the holes in the top and bottom, though this piggy bank is too small for a cork in its belly.

That's what we call Back Bacon.

As you can see, the Ugly as Mud Piggy Bank is pretty small. Originally I wasn't even going to fire or paint him, but there was room in the kiln, and now I am very happy I did!
